Introduction
Gerald H. “Jerry” Smith, CG, is a full-time professional Certified Genealogist specializing in Pennsylvania research. He has served as a course coordinator for IGHR (Land Platting) and as a faculty member for additional courses at IGHR, SLIG, and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania’s Researching Family in Pennsylvania. He is the author of several books and journal articles and conducts in-depth research involving Proprietor and Commonwealth land records, mapping, and land placement.

Jerry regularly researches at the Pennsylvania Archives, State Library of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Law Library, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, military repositories (including the David Library of the American Revolution and the U.S. Army Military History Institute), the National Archives, religious and denominational repositories, county courthouses, and local historical and genealogical societies. His Southern Pennsylvania border county research also includes frequent on-site work in Annapolis, Baltimore, surrounding Maryland counties, West Virginia, and Virginia.
