ABOUT ME
Introduction
Timothy N. Pinnick is a national speaker, author of the book Finding and Using African American Newspapers, and owner of History and Genealogy Spotlight, a business specializing in assisting libraries and individuals in identifying new and used African American books relevant to the African American research process.
Pinnick has delivered historical papers on multiple occasions, including at the Western Historical Association and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History conferences.
With the exception of the inaugural year of 2004, he has been part of the teaching cadre in the biennial course “Researching African American Ancestors” at the Institute for Genealogy and Historical Research through 2020. In 2019 and 2023, Tim was the coordinator and facilitator of a workshop course at the Institute entitled “Building an African American Research Toolbox.”

Pinnick has served in the past on the boards of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speakers Guild, and the Federation of Genealogical Societies. In 2023, he was appointed to the Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He is the Lead Researcher and former Co-Chair for the New Hanover County Community Remembrance Project (NHCCRP), formed in 2019 with the goal of conducting a Soil Collection Ceremony under the auspices of the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama. His efforts now center on developing a network of individuals, groups, and organizations working to gather, share, and preserve the history and stories of the Wilmington African American community.
