ABOUT ME

Introduction

Teri E. Flack is a professional genealogist, researcher, and educator. A sixth-generation Texan, she began her family history quest over 50 years ago when she asked her grandmother to tell her everything she knew about the family. Most of her father’s family started in the South with stops in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Louisiana before landing in Texas. Her mother’s family has northern and southern roots. They, too, were always on the move. Her family history is one of westward migration.

Teri obtained a graduate Paralegal certificate from Texas State University and was Chief Investigator for the Texas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division for over 10 years. She later handled governmental relations and public information for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, eventually becoming Deputy Commissioner of Higher Education.

Following her retirement, Teri returned to Texas State to obtain her MA in Public History, which led to her current volunteer efforts focusing on preserving records and ensuring their accessibility to researchers. She is a fellow of the Texas State Genealogical Society, chairing the society’s Records Preservation and Access Committee. She is a volunteer archivist for the Texas State Archives, processing Galveston County records and creating finding aids to make them accessible to the public.

She has served on the faculty of the Texas Institute for Genealogical Research (TIGR) since its beginning. Her recorded webinars for Family Tree Webinars include the five-part Researching Texas series and webinars on research strategies and organizing research data and files.
