General Session Keynote: "A Look at Genealogy’s Past, Present, and Future"
David E. Rencher, AG, CG, FUGA, FIGRS
An entertaining look at the past we cannot change and the future we could never have predicted. Some of our past accomplishments sprinkled with pitfalls and a future fueled bright with hope. Where will the genealogy ride take us in the coming decades?
David E. Rencher, AG, CG, FUGA, FIGRS, is employed as the Chief Genealogical Officer for FamilySearch. A professional genealogist since 1977, he is one of the rare few who have earned both credentials: Accredited Genealogist with ICAPGen in Ireland research and Certified Genealogist with the Board for Certification of Genealogists. He is the Irish course coordinator and instructor for the Institute of Genealogical and Historical Research (IGHR) in Athens, Georgia. He is vice-president of the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History and an instructor for the British Institute.
Open Daily, 9:00am–5:30pm; Friday 9:00–12:30pm
Join us here to enjoy a mid-morning refreshment break, visit Maia's Bookstore, check out UGA information, buy some SLIG swag, speak with professional organization, peruse the BCG & ICAPGen portfolios, use the charging stations, and take advantage of plenty of room to relax and network.
SLIG Shuttle to the Family History Library (FHL)
Tuesday tand Thursday, 4:00–9:00pm, Wednesday, 4:30–7:30pm and Friday, 4:20–6:00pm
Departs in front of the Hilton; drops and picks up in front of the Family History Library.
We realize that researching at the Family History Library is a key part of your SLIG experience. The FHL is a short 3-block walk, but then Salt Lake City blocks are not very short (each one equals 1/8 mile). Therefore, SLIG runs shuttles daily, Tuesday through Friday, after classes, as well as for all scheduled labs and consultations, until the FHL closes at 9:00 pm. For departure times, please see the schedule posted in the hotel lobby, FHL lobby, and in the front of your syllabus.
The shuttle ends Friday at 6:00 pm to avoid conflict with the closing banquet.
Wednesday, 7:30–8:30 pm, Grand Ballroom Foyer and SLIG Central
Relax, network, and visit with friends, new and old. Enjoy a warm pretzel and grab a drink. A cash bar will offer a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages for purchase; no purchase required to participate.
